The story of Rumah Sukha
A Place of Healing, Hope, and New Beginnings
The seeds of Rumah Sukha were planted many years ago, back in 2004, when Anastasia and Dani began working closely with women survivors of exploitation and trauma. Their journey was driven by compassion, a desire to create change, and a vision of empowering those who had been through unimaginable hardships.
Fast forward to 2024, after two decades of dedication and learning, that vision took a tangible form with the birth of Rumah Sukha. It all began when we opened Flourish Café, a safe and supportive space where survivors could work, gain valuable skills, and begin the journey of healing. Flourish Café wasn’t just a workplace—it was a sanctuary, a place where survivors could rebuild their confidence and find hope for the future.
Initially, we focused on helping adult survivors, but soon our mission expanded in an unexpected and heartbreaking way. Friends and partners from another island reached out, asking us to help minor survivors who had been rescued from exploitation. As we stepped in to help, we quickly realized how limited our resources were for minors. While we were able to help some return to their families, our hearts broke when we learned that some of these children were re-trafficked by their own families.
Rumah Sukha
Rumah means a “house or a home”
Its literal translation is often given as “good space,
” coming from the Sanskrit words, su (good) and kha (space)
The word Sukha represents a deep and authentic state of inner
happiness—one that is enduring and rooted within the essence of a being. It is more than just fleeting joy; it is
a lasting sense of peace and contentment.
Sukha can also refer to a state of being calm, energized, and stress-free.
Rumah Sukha means a Bliss House
Rumah Sukha operates as a legally registered entity under the Cipta Kerja Manusantara ( Java Thrive Indonesia) Foundation. Based in Bandung, Indonesia, this foundation is officially recognized and established in accordance with Indonesian law, ensuring that Rumah Sukha functions within a legitimate and regulated framework to support its mission.
Rumah Sukha
Rumah Sukha is dedicated to support the most vulnerable and high-risk teenage girls of on their journey to healing and restoration. We provide a safe and secure environment where young women who have experienced severe childhood sexual abuse or human trafficking can receive comprehensive care—physically, emotionally, and education, and spiritually. Through our programs, they gain the skills needed for self-reliance and successful reintegration into society.
Beyond recovery, we help them build a strong support network of healthy relationships with family, friends, and the community. Our ultimate goal is to empower each survivor to heal, grow, and thrive as a confident and productive member of society.
It was a devastating moment—a realization that we needed to do more. The desire to create a safe and nurturing environment for these vulnerable young girls burned deeply in our hearts. We dreamed of a place where we could provide not just short-term assistance, but long-term care, stability, and opportunities for a brighter future.
A few months later, that dream became reality with the birth of Rumah Sukha. We started small, opening our doors to just one girl. From there, step by step, with love, perseverance, and the support of our community, we grew.
Since then, Rumah Sukha has become a safe haven for over 20 girls, providing both short-term and long-term care. Each girl who comes through our doors carries a story of pain, but also the potential for healing and transformation. At Rumah Sukha, they receive more than just a roof over their heads—they find a family, an education, emotional support, and the chance to dream again.
The journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been worth every challenge. Every smile, every small step forward, and every girl who has reclaimed her life reminds us why we do what we do. Rumah Sukha is not a shelter—it’s a place of love, empowerment, and second chances.
And this is just the beginning. Together, with the support of those who believe in our mission, we will continue to grow, to help
